Sidr Beri Honey

• Traditional use across KPK: a spoonful in warm water at dawn during Ramadan and through winter.
• All raw honey is a source of quick-release glucose and fructose, which is why it is a common recovery food after illness or fasting.
• Darker honeys such as sidr generally test higher for antioxidant (phenolic) content than pale honeys — this is a measured property of the honey, not a treatment claim.
• Research on honey and children's night-time cough is reasonably consistent: a small dose before bed eased symptoms better than no treatment in several trials. It is not a substitute for medical care.

Honey is a food, not a medicine. These are traditional uses and general nutrition points, not treatment claims. Never give honey to a child under 12 months. If you are diabetic, pregnant, or on medication, speak to your doctor first.

• One teaspoon in lukewarm — never boiling — water. High heat degrades the enzymes you paid for.
• On its own before sehri or after iftar.
• Stir into qahwa once the cup has cooled enough to sip.

Sidr is the honey people in this region save for guests and for the sick. The nectar comes from the beri (ziziphus) tree, which flowers for a short window after the first cool nights of October. Our beekeepers move hives down from the hills into the Karak and Kohat scrub for those weeks and pull the supers before the trees finish.

It sets slowly, stays dense at room temperature, and darkens over the first year in the jar. That is normal for a ziziphus honey and is not a fault.
